In the frost-covered suburbs of contemporary Canada, ten-year-old Namir is trying to survive the fifth grade. Between math tests and avoiding the school bully, he has a bigger problem: his fingertips occasionally spark with blue light, and the wind seems to whisper his name.
Namir isn’t just a regular kid—he’s a hidden mage in a world that doesn’t believe in magic. And if he wants to keep his family safe, he has to keep it that way.
Synopsis
The winter chill has arrived early this year, bringing more than just snow. Namir begins to notice strange occurrences at his local school—ice patterns on windows that form maps and shadows that move against the light. While his parents are busy with work and his younger siblings are preoccupied with building snowmen, Namir realizes that the “Winter Whispers” are actually a magical tracking spell.
A sinister figure known as The Alchemist is searching for a rare source of power to grant him eternal life, and he’s narrowed the search down to Namir’s neighborhood. When a freak blizzard traps Namir’s class during a field trip to a local nature center, Namir must use his budding abilities to protect his friends without revealing his secret.
Guided by a mysterious librarian who knows more than she lets on, Namir learns his first lesson in magic: The greatest power isn’t in the spell, but in the wit used to cast it.
