Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German federal enterprise and global development agency specializing in international cooperation for sustainable development and educational work. Acting primarily on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), as well as other international bodies like the European Union, GIZ’s vision is to shape a future worth living globally. The agency’s mission involves managing holistic change, providing technical expertise, advising policymakers, and acting as an intermediary between public institutions, the private sector, and civil society. Rather than providing direct financial aid, GIZ focuses on technical assistance, capacity building, and knowledge transfer across nearly 120 countries.
GIZ has been operating in Bangladesh for over 50 years, beginning its collaboration shortly after the country’s independence in 1972. The agency’s strategic priorities in Bangladesh center on energy, climate and urban development, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable economic development, including education and employment. As part of this mandate, GIZ serves as the primary implementing agency for the “Vocational Training in the Field of Renewable Energy (TVET4RE)” project. Working in cooperation with the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, GIZ facilitates institutional dialogue and structural reforms to align the country’s technical and vocational education system with the labor market needs of the sustainable energy sector.
