The Bangladesh Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) Report 2026 by Khan Mohammad Mahmud Hasan

The Bangladesh Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) Report 2026 outlines a strategic shift from traditional manpower export to a certified skills mobility model, aiming to align domestic workforce capabilities with global demands to achieve Vision 2041. Although the domestic labor force has expanded to 73.2 million individuals, employment remains 84% informal, underscoring the urgent need for formalization and targeted upskilling across key sectors. Concurrently, overseas migration reached a record 1.13 million outflows in 2025, yielding $32.82 billion in remittances, yet systemic challenges such as a 32% graduate unemployment rate, climate-induced migration, and severe migration debt traps continue to hinder progress. To address these issues and reach the 2041 targets of a 55.0% formalization rate and $75.0 billion in remittances, the report advocates for standardizing vocational training to global benchmarks, establishing Mutual Recognition Agreements for professional accreditation, and deploying blockchain-powered digital escrow systems to ensure ethical, transparent recruitment.
